Christy Plumbing & Heating Ltd is an independent family-owned business established by Lawrence Christy nearly 25 years ago. They are Gas Safe registered heating engineers based in North Bedfordshire and serve the East and South of England, the Midlands and London.
Good old fish and chips – and they are very good indeed! Lots of varieties of fish and pies and other goodies. Plus you can buy a soft drink and sachets of sauce if you have none!
Clapham Post Office
The Post Office is a friendly, family run place of business. You have all the facilities of the postal service and many services offered, including car tax renewal, holiday insurance, payment of utility bills and forms for all manner of things. Newspaper delivery is done from here and there are many stationery and artistic products as well as sweets and goodies.
The Fox and Hounds is situated at the north end of the village, at the junction of Oakley Road & Milton Road. Taken over by Mark Jeffreys in March 2010, Mark’s Great Great Grandad William Henry Smith was the first Licensee of the Fox and Hounds in 1876, then known as The Beer House.
Good Chef is a Chinese restaurant (takeaway) along the parade of shops. Really good food and a varied and exciting menu. There is a delivery service too for people who phone in an order and cannot get out. Or you can phone ahead with your order and then go and collect.
Gunns Bakery is renowned for the quality of its products and also as the home of the Bedfordshire Clanger. They work by one principle: ‘To source the finest ingredients to make the finest products freshly and consistently for our loyal customers.’ The burger buns and the hot-dog rolls are from Gunns.
The Horse and Groom was built in the 17th century and has a beautiful 300 ft rear garden, running down to the Great River Ouse. In April 2008, Louise and Peter took over the running of the pub.

Henman’s Garage is a family run company offering automotive repairs and MOTs. There is also a car wash. A small selection of used cars is also available.
Suzuki GB won a recent ‘Manufacturer of the year’ award. Hilton Suzuki gives a 7 year warranty with all the new Suzuki cars. It’s a family run business and has a larger branch in Bishops Stortford. The dealership offers new Suzuki cars, an array of used cars, after sales service, MOTs, servicing and parts.

Motorists are catered for in the village by this retail outlet, run by two guys who certainly know all the ins and outs of automotive parts. Great advice is offered for those drivers who are perplexed!
Park Farm is a family run farm business and has both animals and arable farming. Park Farm offers several services, including tractor and driver for hire.

Spar Folly Stores
Spar is located at the junction of the High Street and Oakley Road. SPAR was set up in the UK in 1957 and is the UK’s leading convenience store group. Licensed to sell alcoholic beverages, there is a large choice of spirits,wines and beer. Newspapers and magazines are also on sale, along with a good range of food and grocery products.
The Star public house is sited next to Bellini’s. It’s a very popular village pub with an outdoor seating area, where you can watch the world go by. Maureen, who runs The Star, also ably manages the bar in the Village Hall at the Show – lovely lady.
Tinsleys is British Horse Society Approved, licensed by Bedford Council and fully insured. Neil and Sue Black pride themselves on being able to offer a wealth of experience and hosting friendly, efficient lessons. For the first time rider to advanced riding.
The Manor we see today, was built in 1901 by local architects Usher & Anthony. There are both standard rooms and executive suites including four poster rooms. Autographs is Woodland Manor Hotel’s award winning restaurant, hosting a variety of A la Carte dishes and bespoke menus that balance English traditional dishes with the French flair for fresh, light flavours, complemented by wines from well stocked cellars.
Zeera Tandoori offers very good fast food and takeaway with an authentic, tasty Indian menu. The onus is on quality of the herbs, spices and food used in the recipes. Located in the parade of shops, there is a free home delivery service.
